Dear Morris:

Welcome back to the start of a new school year.  This time of year presents new opportunities for administrators and students alike. With this in mind, my staff and I would like to invite you and your students to learn more about our nation's Military Service Academies and the educational and career opportunities they provide. The five Service Academies are the United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, United States Merchant Marines Academy, and United States Coast Guard Academy.

For students who are interested in the challenges and rewards of a military environment while working toward a first class education, our country's Military Service Academies offer a full four-year education including tuition, books, and board. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as officers in their respective service branch. There is a service obligation that must be met.

The admission process is extremely competitive so the sooner the students start preparing, the better. The admissions criteria includes: strong academic performance and standardized test scores, athletics or other extracurricular activities, leadership experience, community involvement, and a Congressional nomination (except for the Coast Guard Academy, this is a national competition not requiring a nomination).

I have enclosed a flyer promoting the service academy Congressional nomination process. I would appreciate if you would post the flyer at your school and on your website to help inform your students about this unique opportunity available to them. I look forward to working with you in the future and to seeing your students apply for one of our service academies. If you have any questions, please contact my Academy Coordinator, Paul Lynch, at (912) 243-9452.  You can find the application and more information on my website rickallen.house.gov.

Sincerely,
