The Second Season-Go Trojans Go!

Letter from Jimmy Roberts

Back in August, 74 schools, members of the Georgia High School Association Class AAAAA, began their 2014, 10 game football season.  Their goal was to win as many of those games as possible in order to qualify for the State Playoffs.  That is the Second Season.  32 of those 74 teams have achieved that goal.  Our Coffee High Trojans are one of those teams.  Our goal now is to win five more games (The Second Season) and claim the State Title in Class AAAAA.

The first step in that direction will be taken this Friday when the Trojans will host the Mundy’s Mill Tigers from Clayton County.  The Trojans are the Second Seeded team from Region 3.  Mundy’s Mill is the Third Seeded Team from Region 4.  If the truth be known, Mundy’s Mill may be the most talented team out or their region.  An untimely loss earlier in the year cost them a shot at their region championship, not unlike Coffee’s close loss to Ware County cost us our region title.  Mundy’s Mill is no stranger to Douglas and Jardine Stadium.  They’ve played here the past two seasons, last year losing a very close game 14 to 18.

Our team of coaches and players have worked very hard to earn this opportunity.  Our coaches will put a good game plan in place for this game and I am confident that our players will execute this plan well in order to advance to the next round of the playoffs.  However, Mundy’s Mill will be a very tough opponent and they also want to advance to round two.

NOW-what should be a big advantage for the Trojans is that this game is being played on our field.  Jardine Stadium is our house.  The seating capacity at Jardine is just over 6600.  My point is that everyone of those seats, except for the number allotted for Mundy’s Mill, should be occupied by a highly motivated Trojan fan.  Home field is not an advantage for the home team if the home crowd doesn’t pack the stadium.  Crowd support is a proven factor in motivating a team to play harder and at a higher level in critical game situations.  As fans we need for our players and coaches to always know they have our strong support.  Other teams should learn quickly that our House is not ever going to be a “fun” place for them to play.

Some schools have special names for their stadiums like Boot Hill, House of Pain or Death Valley.  Jardine Stadium should simply be the place where visiting teams come to see their dreams of victory die.  Five visiting teams have had that happen to them this year.  Let’s do our part Friday night to see that Mundy’s Mill becomes the sixth.

Get your tickets!  Be at the game!  Make some noise!  Let’s help our Trojans make the Second Season even more successful than the first.  Go Trojans!  Beat Mundy’s Mill!
