Rowland Cummings Named New Coffee High Principal

     
 

Rowland CummingsRowland Cummings comes to Coffee County from Valdosta where he has served for the past seven years as an assistant principal at Lowndes County High School. Along with a strong work ethic, leadership skills and reputation for community and school involvement, he brings an impressive career in education and leadership to our school system and community.  

Mr. Cummings served in the United States Army for 4 years and the National Guard and Army Reserves for 6 years.

He began his teaching career at Bradford County High School in Starke, Florida. Mr. Cummings taught U.S. and World History at Bradford High School. He later moved to Union County High School in Lake Butler, Florida where he taught social studies. At Union County High School Mr. Cummings served as the head basketball coach and assistant football coach.

Mr. Cummings returned to Bradford County High School as an assistant principal and head football coach. Later he moved to Georgia to become the Principal at Staley Middle School in Americus, Georgia.

In 2005, Mr. Cummings became associated with the Lowndes County School System, initially as the Freshman Academy Director at Lowndes High School and later as an assistant principal and director of the Performance Learning Center and Lowndes Learning Center. While in Valdosta Mr. Cummings has served as the Assistant Athletic Director and Chaplain for the Lowndes High School football team.

During Mr. Cummings' 7-year tenure as an Assistant Principal in Lowndes County the high school has received state and national recognition in academics and extracurricular activities. While at Lowndes he has worked closely with Mr. Wes Taylor who in 2011 was named the National High School Principal of the Year.

Mr. Cummings received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Florida in 1986, where he had a football scholarship and was named to the All Academic South Eastern Conference Football Team in 1985. In 2000, he received his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida A&M University and in 2007 his Specialist Degree from Valdosta State University.

Mr. Cummings is currently completing his dissertation for a doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University.

He and his wife Antoinette have four children.
