Notice of Special Education Records Destruction

By Coffee County School System

In compliance with the Individual Disabilities Act (IDEA), The Georgia Records Act, and Coffee County School System local procedure regarding destruction of data collected, maintained, or used in the provision of a free and appropriate public education of student with disabilities in the Coffee County Schools, the Records Department announces its intention to destroy special education records on July 31, 2012.

Records on students who were enrolled in a special education program in the Coffee County School System who were born between January 1, 1986 and December 31, 1986 and were twenty-five (25) years of age as of January 1, 2012 are no longer needed for educational purposes.

The student or parent may need these records for Social Security or other reasons. If you, as a former special education student or a parent of a former special education student, wish to obtain these records prior to destruction, you should contact the Special Education Records Department, Coffee County Special Services, 1305 South Peterson Avenue, Douglas, Georgia before July 31, 2012. Positive identification will be required before the records can be released to the individual.
